ZEIGLER, Ill. — Six firefighters were hurt after their fire truck was involved in a rollover crash while responding to a fire Tuesday.
WFSB.com reported that all six firefighters, with the Zeigler Fire Department, were taken to an area hospital. The truck captain was pinned until crews could arrive to remove her. She was flown via helicopter to a trauma center as a precaution.
All firefighters have since been treated and released from the hospital.
The fire department posted on Facebook that they are “beyond thankful for all of your prayers and support. We are especially thankful for our brothers and sisters in public safety who came to our rescue.”
They said, “The community support and outpouring from our public safety brothers and sisters across the state has been a blessing. Thank you all again.”
The fire truck was the only vehicle involved and was moving at a slow speed when the rollover happened, according to the report. Fire officials said a section of the road gave way as the truck passed over an area with a culvert.
The sheriff’s office will continue to investigate and determine the factors involved and the cause of the crash.
