FELTON, Del. — No injuries were reported after a fire truck slid into a ditch due to icy conditions while passing a crash site while responding to another incident Tuesday morning.
Delaware State News reported that Capt. Rodney Simons, with the Felton Community Fire Company, was one of six firefighters in the truck that passed by at 10 to 15 mph before it began to slide into a ditch before overturning on its side.
A wrecker was pulling a tractor-trailer out of a ditch after it hit a pole when the fire truck traveled slowly past and then slid, according to the report.
All of the firefighters were wearing seatbelts and equipment was secured, Capt. Simons said. Some soreness was reported by firefighters after the crash.
It took two wreckers more than two hours to get the rig out of the ditch. It was taken back to the station for evaluation.
Fire officials said there was some cosmetic damage and the truck is being checked for further damage.
