JACKSON COUNTY, Ky. — A 16-year-old volunteer firefighter and junior ROTC cadet died Tuesday after a motorcycle crash.
Christopher Harrison joined the Sand Gap Volunteer Fire Department as a junior firefighter when he was 14, reported WKYT.
Harrison was in the county’s parade Saturday, where he then took off on his motorcycle and crashed, reported LEX18.
“If he got a chance to help somebody, he enjoyed doing it. He’s just one in a million. You don’t find too many like him,” Sand Gap Fire Chief Lonnie Madden said.
Following his death, Jackson County Judge-Executive Shane Gabbard ordered all flags at the county government be flown at half-staff until Harrison’s funeral is over.
Harrison, a junior in high school, will be buried with full military honors. His firefighter badge number, 466, will be retired from the department.
“He’ll always be a part of this department and this community. None of us will ever forget about him … that’s for sure,” Madden said.
