KETTERING, Md. — A firefighter was critically injured fighting a house fire early Wednesday morning, and now fire investigators say that the fire may have been deliberately set.
At 2:01 a.m., Prince George’s County firefighters were summoned to a fire on Herrington Drive in the Kettering section of Largo by the family that lived in the home. They found fire consuming an attached carport and extending into the single family home.
Firefighters entered the building at 2:06 a.m. Nine minutes later, a “mayday” was issued, indicating there was a firefighter in trouble. One of the first firefighters into the building had been hurt and a device on his uniform had activated to send the call for help.
