SUMMIT PARK, W.Va. — As of 7 a.m. Thursday the Summit Park Volunteer Fire Department is back in service after the State Fire Commission issued a cease and desist order last April.
Summit Park voluntarily closed its doors last February after several complaints were voiced. At that same time, Fire Marshal Tony Carrico began an investigation after criticism arose from Summit Park’s response to the collapse of two cell phone towers that killed three people, including Nutter Fort Firefighter Michael Garrett.
Volunteer firefighter Kevin Snyder said the department is looking forward to serving the community and earning its trust. “We had to do a lot of work to the building. A lot of electrical wasn’t up to code, we didn’t have a working bathroom, the waterline froze and busted, there was a lot of trash we had to clean up. Just a lot of small things that added up. A lot of people have seen what we have done and see it is no where near what is was before. We are keeping everything clean and trying to keep everything straight laced.”
