SALISBURY, Md. — A city is suing a group of breakaway volunteer firefighters for return of property and money.
Del Marva Now reported that the lawsuit was filed by the city of Salisbury after a group of volunteer firefighters broke away from the Salisbury Fire Department.
The lawsuit seeks to halt the spending of taxpayer and charitable funds. It also demands property be retuned and for an account to be produced of any funds spent from public or charitable sources.
The dispute between the firefighters and the city started in February, when volunteer firefighters of Company 1 said they were separating from the department after the city refused to participate in a mediation to figure out station staffing issues.
The firefighters then announced in March that they were taking over an area of the county that Station 1 serves, and they sued the city in May for $494,316 in damages.
