PRIPYAT, Ukrain — A new source of wildfire was found in the exclusion zone around the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant on Sunday; the situation is under control, the Ukrainian State Emergencies Service said on Aug.9.
“A new source of forest fire was found in the alienation and unconditional (compulsory) evacuation zone between the former villages of Kovshilivka and Buda Varovichi at 2 p.m. on August 9,” the spokesperson said.
At 5 p.m., the situation is under control. The fire-fighting effort involves 97 personnel and 17 pieces of equipment, including three Antonov An-32P firefighting airplanes and a Mil Mi-8 helicopter with a water-discharging system.
