MIAMI — Two firefighters were struck Saturday while helping crash victims on scene.
Patch.com reported that the Miami Fire-Rescue firefighters were helping extricate a driver who had been in a crash when an SUV struck them, according to Captain Ignatius Carroll.
“As firefighters were attempting to extricate the driver of a Nissan SUV, a Toyota SUV sideswiped the rescue truck, hitting two firefighters and eventually crashing into the rear of the fire truck,” Capt. Carroll said.
Capt. Carroll said the firefighters were immediately aided by colleagues.
“Firefighters rushed to the aid of their injured co-workers and found five people inside of the Toyota with serious injuries,” he said. “Five patients, including the two firefighters, were transported to Ryder Trauma Center, one patient transported to Jackson Memorial ER and two transported to University of Miami Hospital.”
Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Camacho said one firefighter has been released from the hospital, and the other is in stable condition.
