SURREY, England — A firefighter, who also regularly writes and produces music, created a music video portraying a fatal drunken driving car crash.

GetSurrey.co.uk reported that Maxi Curnow, 23, who works at the Gomshall Fire Station, wanted to show the potential consequences of driving while under the influence.

His music video features a young couple, played by Curnow and his girlfriend, who are involved in a crash.

“The idea for the video was to show how easy it is to be complacent behind the wheel and to stop complacency through irresponsible or drunk driving,” Curnow said.

Curnow used his fellow firefighters and their gear to make the film realistic.

“Some aspects of the accident scene have been exaggerated, but we are following the same road traffic collision procedures as we would on a real job,” he said.

He admitted seeing his real-life girlfriend play a road crash victim was “very difficult to watch.”

“She’s obviously not just playing my girlfriend, so seeing her on the floor and with a real smashed up car nearby, was tough to look at,” he said. “It did hit home even more.”

The music video idea came from the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service Safe Drive Stay Alive campaign, which he said had “massively changed his perspective.”
