BROOKINGS, Ore. — Equipment was stolen from two fire rigs while firefighters who were preparing to help battle the Chetco Bar wildfire slept.
Register Guard reported that thousands of dollars in equipment was stolen while the rigs were parked outside of a high school close to where the fire was burning, according to Lane County Fire Defense Board Chief Chad Minter.
The firefighters were sleeping inside the high school when the incident occurred. An oxygen tank, a firefighter’s bag, a flat-headed ax, a firefighter jacket and other pieces of equipment were missing. Chief Minter said a couple of the items were found dumped nearby.
