Ind. firefighter dies hours after responding to brush fire

La Crosse Firefighter Ken Caldwell died at home after working as a tanker operator

LA CROSSE, Ind. — The La Crosse Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its firefighters.

The department posted on social media that Firefighter Ken Caldwell unexpectedly died on June 6, hours after responding to a brush fire as the tanker operator.

Sworn in on August 1, 2001, Caldwell was named “Member of the Year” in 2023. The department praised him for always doing everything asked of him to the best of his ability.

A visitation and service to honor Caldwell’s life will be held on Monday, June 17, at the Center of LaCrosse.
