PAINESVILLE, Ohio – More than a dozen fire departments extinguished a fire early morning Wednesday at a manufacturing building in Painesville.

Fire crews responded to the Avery Dennison Corp. at 4:45 a.m., according to a report from Painesville Fire Chief Thomas Hummel Jr. The business, located at 250 Chester St., suffered extensive damage from a roof fire.

The cause of fire was determined to be a mechanical failure, officials said.

Fire crews used aerial ladders to reach the roof of the building. The fire did not extend into the building and was contained to the roof’s edge, Hummel Jr. reported.

Damage estimates for the building were not available, according to the report.

The business runs constantly around the clock. All staff members safely evacuated the building, Hummel Jr. reported. No staff or firefighters were injured.

The Painesville Fire Department gained help from Fairport Harbor, Concord Township, Grand River, Mentor, Willoughby Hills and other departments.

Avery Dennison manufactures and distributes adhesive materials for apparel branding labels and tags, specialty medical products and more, according to the company’s website.
