ST. MICHAELS, Md. — Authorities say a firefighter was hit by a police car that was pursuing a man wanted for harvesting oysters out of season on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
St. Michael’s fire chief Phil Jones tells The Star-Democrat of Easton that the firefighter was treated briefly at a hospital and had no major injuries. Jones says the firefighter was back at work hours after he was struck on Saturday afternoon.
The chain of events began when police say John Ball of St. Michaels hit a parked car, causing damage to that and two other vehicles. Police say officers arrived and mentioned the oyster-poaching warrant to Ball, who took off running.
The officer followed Ball in a car and hit the firefighter, whose name was not released. Ball remains at large.
