ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A witness called 911 after seeing a man get dumped into a garbage truck that was making its rounds, county officials in Florida said.

Fire rescue officials and paramedics were dispatched to the truck in Pensacola around 3:15 a.m. on May 24, according to Davis Wood, a spokesman for Escambia County.

Rescuers got the man out of the truck just before 4:10 a.m., Wood said. He was taken to a hospital. Wood said he couldn’t comment on the man’s condition.

Video from WEAR showed firefighters on ladders climbing to the top of the truck. A stretcher was lowered onto the top of the truck as rescuers worked to free him.

The man had been sleeping in a dumpster when he was ejected into the truck, according to Wood.

The waste management company did not respond to a request for comment from McClatchy News.
