GAFFNEY, S.C. — Gaffney firefighters rescued a teenager after he fell 40 feet into a well Saturday night, WPDE reported.
Training Officer Doug Bowers said the boy, 14, jumped on a cement well shaft. The lid crumbled and sent him falling into the water.
The boy was found treading water and holding on to pipes in the well.
Firefighters performed a technical rescue successfully in about half an hour.
EMS providers transported the teen to a hospital. Sources said his injuries were not life-threatening.
"Our firefighters train often for these scenarios, that are not routine but they do happen," the department posted on Facebook. "We’re proud of the professionalism shown by our crew."
