WARREN, Mich. — A Warren firefighter is under scrutiny after posting a photo on social media taken inside a burned home following a house fire. The image, which shows him with his lieutenant and fellow firefighters, drew criticism for its perceived insensitivity toward the homeowner.
The fire commissioner called the post unacceptable and said disciplinary action would follow. However, the commissioner also described the incident as a teachable moment about social media use among younger firefighters, WDIV reported.
The fire occurred on June 5 and was contained within 20 minutes, with no injuries reported. A photo meant to honor the crew, captioned “Good work boys,” was posted afterward but was quickly removed. The young firefighter who shared the image has since apologized.
The commissioner is coordinating a meeting between the firefighter and the homeowner to address the incident. Both the young firefighter and his lieutenant are facing potential disciplinary action, which could range from a written warning to suspension or termination. A final decision is expected later this week.
