Boston firefighter union head under fire after filling pool

President Richard Paris connected department-owned hose to hydrant to fill neighbor’s pool

BOSTON, Mass. — The head of the Boston firefighter’s union is under fire after he connected a department-owned hose to a fire hydrant to help his neighbor fill his pool.

“I was just trying to help out a neighbor that was putting a pool up,” President Richard Paris told the Boston Herald. “Now that I look at it, it was wrong. I messed up and I apologize.”

Boston Fire Commissioner Roderick Fraser received an anonymous letter about Paris’ mishap and forwarded it to the Boston Water and Sewer Commission and the city mayor.

In light of a recent heat wave, Paris said he wanted to fill up the pool quicker instead of using water from their homes, which would normally take three days.

Paris has not been disciplined by the fire department, but received a bill for $116 from the water department. Pending further investigation, further action may be taken.
