BOULDER, Colo. — An 18-year old man who fell near Flagstaff Mountain Road on Friday night struck a paramedic trying to help him and was cited by deputies for third-degree assault.
The man had smoked marijuana and began to act strangely before he fell and struck his head near the 2600 block of Flagstaff Mountain Road shortly before midnight, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. The man’s friends told dispatch that they were worried about his behavior and were holding him down to keep him from running into the woods, deputies said.
Paramedics and Boulder Fire Department workers arrived before law enforcement. When they began to treat the man, he struck a paramedic in the face, breaking his glasses and leaving a mark, deputies said.
The paramedics and firefighters were able to wrestle the man to the ground. He continued to struggle, and they were forced to administer a sedative to calm him. Deputies and officers from the Boulder Police Department arrived shortly after the sedative was administered.
Because the male was off the trail at Flagstaff Mountain, Rocky Mountain Rescue responded. The 18-year-old was secured to a litter and hiked out to an ambulance and transported to Boulder Community Hospital. Once there, he was issued a summons for third-degree assault by sheriff’s deputies.
