NEW YORK — Anthony Marsal, 24, was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated and traffic offenses in connection with a collision last October in which firefighter John Monteverde, 57, was killed.
NJ.com reported that firefighter Monteverde, a 31-year veteran of the FDNY, was driving home from his Pennsylvania vacation home Oct. 11 when his motorcycle was struck by Marsal’s car, according to the report.
Monteverde was thrown from his motorcycle and died of multiple internal and external injuries, according to the report. He was wearing a bright reflective vest at the time, police said.
Toxicology tests revealed that Marsal’s blood-alcohol level nearly tripled the legal limit, and that he had ingested cocaine in the hours leading up to the crash, according to the report.
