WALNUT GROVE, Mo. — A family is safe thanks to their dog and a working smoke alarm. A fire broke out inside their home near Walnut Grove on Monday night.
The house is in the 8300 block of W. Farm Road 34. When crews arrived, they found the three-story house engulfed in flames.
The homeowners say they woke up to their dog barking and the smoke alarm going off. They quickly got out of the house safely.
Crews say it was tough to get water to the house to fight the blaze.
“You have a single-lane road you have to deal with and the house is a little way back,” said Willard Assistant Fire Chief Kelly Davis. “We had to bring in lines from the road down so we have a water operation in the front taking care of trucks down here.”
The house is a total loss.
Four different departments including Willard and Walnut Grove helped fight the fire.
Fire officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
