Video: Car crashing into gas station sparks huge fire

Police say the driver likely pressed the accelerator instead of the brake on accident

MARTINEZ, Calif. — Video shows an intense car fire after the driver accidentally drove into a gas station pump, sparking a huge blaze Wednesday evening.

The Chevy Cavalier’s driver was trying to make a yellow light, turning his car at a high speed and under-steered, sending his car into the gas station, according to the Smoking Tire.

Police say the unidentified driver likely accidentally pressed the gas instead of the brake pedal.

The fire completely burned the Cavalier and at least one other vehicle and caused extensive damage to the gas station, the Contra Costa Times reports.

A gas station attendant quickly stopped the gas flow to the pumps when he witnessed the incident, but the fire still broke out.

It took firefighters 15 minutes to extinguish the flames.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor. Police are investigating and say no one was injured in the crash.
