KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — A group of Eastside firefighters battling the 23,000 acre Taylor Bridge Fire in Washington State became a hungry doe’s savior.
Firefighter Cody Ramstad said that the small deer was the only one of a group of deer that would approach firefighters, according to Northwest Cable News.
The wildfire had burned much of the deer’s feeding ground.
The doe was thin and seemingly hungry, but it took a few days for her to come to trust the firefighters.
Eventually the nursing doe ate the granola bars and fruit the firefighters offered from their lunches. After eating, the doe would return to nursing her fawns.
“It was a welcome interaction for all of us given the initial chaos of the first few days of the fire,” Firefighter Ramstad said.
