TOLEDO, Ohio — South Toledo’s fire Station 21 will temporarily close at 7 a.m. today for apparatus floor repairs. The station, at 1474 Detroit Ave., should be closed for about five days while an epoxy is put on the floor to prevent further damage.

The cost of the project, which is to be completed by Tri-State Flooring, was not provided. Fire crews assigned to Station 21 will be relocated. Engine 21 will respond from Station 9, 900 South Ave., while Medic 21 will be put out of service and kept at Station 14, 1655 N. Reynolds Rd.

Additional personnel will move to Station 11 at 4820 Airport Hwy. In August, water was found to be leaking into the basement from the floor above. Later that month, inspectors found no structural concerns, but recommended the epoxy sealant. Station 21 opened on Nov. 19, 1931, and serves an 8.4 square-mile area of South Toledo. Toledo fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said the apparatus floor was replaced fewer than 20 years ago.
