2 NJ firefighters arrested in heroin sting

The firefighters were charged with attempting to buy what turned out to be fake heroin at work

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Two firefighters were arrested after attempting to buy heroin outside of their station last week.

The arrests came after a sting operation, as an undercover officer sold the firefighters fake heroin.

Eric Funk, 39, allegedly tried paying $20 the heroin while in uniform, reported the Press of Atlantic City.

Matthew Doherty, 33, was not in uniform, and allegedly tried trading a watch for heroin because he did not have enough cash.

Both men will be suspended; Atlantic City Fire Chief Scott Evans said he was not aware of the arrests until Thursday.

Both men were released without bail, reported the Inquirer.
