Councilman slugs fire dept. president

The two men reportedly bumped into one another outside a store, talked briefly, and got into a fight

SPRINGDALE, Pa. — A Pa. councilman is being accused of punching a fire department president in the face during an argument outside a store.

Cheswick Borough Council President Jonathan Skedel was walking his dog when he bumped into fire department President Joseph Ferraro Wednesday morning. The two became involved in an argument and then Skedel allegedly punched Ferraro, according to Trib Total Media.

Ferraro had to go to the dentist to be treated for injuries he sustained from the punch. He declined to make a comment about the incident.

Skedel said that the two of them exchanged some words and that he was justified in his punching Ferraro.

“I was attacked, and I defended myself,” he said.

The incident is currently under investigation with police trying to obtain surveillance camera footage to see exactly what happened.

Relations between Skedel and the local firefighters have been tense over the past year, as Skedel voted against buying a fire company a new truck and has urged many fire companies to merge and consolidate.
