HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — A N.Y. lieutenant was shot in the leg at a large firehouse party Sunday morning.
The unidentified Hempstead Fire Department Lt. was taken to the hospital after being shot, but his injury is described as non-life threatening, according to Newsday.
Fire Chief Scott Clark said that there were a couple hundred people outside the firehouse when he arrived at the scene. The party had been called a “baby shower” by a department member who reserved the firehouse.
“Obviously, it was not a baby shower,” Chief Clark said. “This definitely would not have been approved.”
The four-year veteran who reserved the firehouse has been suspended.
The injured Lt. has been with the department for more than a decade and is good standing.
An internal investigation has been launched into the matter.
