Pa. firefighters object to rumored firehouse closing

Firefighters told council members it wasn’t a good idea to shut a station down and that they would be putting people’s lives in jeopardy

NORRISTOWN, Pa. — Council discussed a municipal rumor on Tuesday night that one of the four remaining fire stations would close on the same night they adopted a 2015 municipal budget with no tax increase.

More than 50 volunteer firefighters and employees of the code department attended the workshop council meeting to object to a potential firehouse closing and to changes in the code enforcement department.

Councilman Gary Simpson said he wanted to assess the operations of the four firehouses to determine if they were financially sound and whether consolidation would help with volunteer numbers.
