AGUANGA, Calif. — In 11 years as a paramedic Josh Rivers has delivered seven babies – and the most recent one was his new daughter, Grace.
He responded to his own home Saturday and delivered his daughter, Grace, in his living room at 4:45 a.m.
“I never thought I would deliver my own kid on duty,” Rivers told the Press Enterprise.
“I’m just glad he got to practice on six before mine,” his wife Lauren said.
Her due date was nearly two weeks away when she called Rivers to tell him she was having painful contractions. At first the paramedic with Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department thought he would go home to drive his wife to the hospital, but it quickly became apparent that birth was imminent.
Rivers and the Engine 77 crew responded to the house and an ambulance arrived to take her to the hospital. Before they could make it out the door the door, Grace made her appearance and Rivers delivered his own child.
