Canadian fire truck hit head-on; firefighters extricated motorist

The fire truck was hit a second time from behind and will be out of service for a long time

ONTARIO, Canada — Severe weather conditions are to blame after one person was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after colliding with a fire truck Wednesday.

“It looks like somebody crossed into the path of the fire truck,” Chief Andy Macintosh said. “Don’t go out there, it’s not pretty.”

The Orangeville Fire Department truck was then rear-ended by a second vehicle, according to Orangeville.com. Firefighters had to extricate one person who was trapped in a vehicle. The motorist was taken to hospital with serious injuries, according to the report.

The fire truck was also seriously damaged.

“It’s bad,” Chief Macintosh said. “It will be out of service for a long time.”

Macintosh is pleading with motorists to drive with caution in poor weather conditions.

“People have got to slow down. If you can’t see, you have to slow down and it’s not happening,” he said. “It’s just beyond me, I can’t figure out why people don’t slow down.”
