WONEWOC, Wis. — After 10 years of fundraising, a Wis. fire department has bought a new fire truck.
The Wonewoc Fire Department bought the truck last Wednesday and donated it to the Wonewoc Area Fire and Ambulance Association, the department’s governing body, according to the Star Times.
Firefighters held fundraisers throughout each year to get enough money to buy the apparatus.
“We have a dinner at the fire station…and it costs $40 per ticket,” said department Chief Ben Field.
Firefighters also hold sub sandwich sales and chicken dinners, with no taxpayer money going towards the new vehicle.
The department bought a used 1994 heavy rescue model that cost about $68,000. It was then refurbished and adorned with new equipment.
With this heavy rescue truck, Chief Field said that the department owns the only one in the county, and is the fifth in the department’s fleet.
“I would like to thank the firefighters for all they do to contribute to the association,” said association President Dick Lankey. “It is very much appreciated.”
