NAKURU, Kenya — Nakuru county no longer has a firefighting engine, after the existing one was razed by residents on Tuesday.
The Sh50 million engine was burnt to ashes by Salgaa residents after the crew attempted to put off a bonfire lit by protesters along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
Julius Yeter, who was part of the firefighting team, said some protesters started stoning the fire engine before pouring petrol and setting it ablaze. Yeter said the truck driver, who could not drive off since two trailers had blocked the engine, was hurt in the incident.
