PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland firefighters responding to a medical call nearly had a man drive away in their own SUV.
Portland Fire and Rescue Spokesman Rich Tyler said the crew was starting the initial assessment of the patient, when the man decided he no longer wanted to be treated.
He walked away and got into the small SUV, known as a Rapid Response Vehicle, which was parked near East Burnside Street and 135th Avenue Friday afternoon, according to Tyler. “He just kind of zombie-walked into the car, sat down, closed the door. I don’t even know if he put his seatbelt on or not,” said Chad Steffanson, who saw the incident take place. “He just tried taking off and the firefighters were like, I don’t think so.”
