NEW YORK — A dozen people were injured when a fire tore through a multi-family home in Brooklyn Monday, officials said.

The blaze broke out on the first floor of the house on Sheffield Ave. near Hegeman Ave. in New Lots just after 6:30 p.m., according to the FDNY.

Multiple children were forced to jump from windows to escape the smoke and flames, sources said.

It took 12 units and 60 FDNY members to knock down the flames, which were under control by about 8:50 p.m., officials said.

Medics took 10 people to area hospitals, two of them with serious injuries.

The cause of the fire was under investigation later Monday night.
