FOUNTAIN, Colo. — Firefighters working to contain a wildfire stumbled upon a large illegal pot grow operation.

CBS Denver reported that El Paso County, Pueblo County and Fort Carson fire crews were battling the 3,300-acre Carson Midway Fire when they found more than 100 pot plants inside of a home.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office entered the home later that evening after obtaining a search warrant and seized the plants, which they said were “in the flowering stage ready for harvest.”

The investigation into the grow operation is currently ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

Under Colorado law, residents are allowed to recreationally grow up to 12 plants per property, and medical home growers are only allowed to have up to 24 plants.
