WALLINGTON, N.J. — Wallington Police arrested a man after an investigation revealed that he filed a false report and claimed to be the victim of a hit-and-run accident on Park Row.

Joseph Fehl, 36, of Hasbrouck Heights, told police on July 3 that he was struck and dragged about 20 feet by a dark colored compact vehicle traveling at a high speed near the intersection of Park Row and Adamson Street.

Wallington Detective Lt. Shawn Kudlacik said that police canvassed the neighborhood, looking for possible witnesses or video footage of the accident. Although Fehl reported heavy front end damage to the car that struck him, the scene lacked any physical debris or skid marks from the accident, police said. Kudlacik said that police were able to obtain two surveillance camera video feeds directed at the intersection and the firehouse.
