DOVER, Pa. — A fire police officer died Wednesday while performing maintenance on a department truck.
York Daily Record reported that Dover Township Fire Department Officer Grant Froman, a 17-year veteran of the department, was working on a truck he had taken home from the department when he suffered an apparent heart attack.
Froman was transported to the hospital after being found by a neighbor, where he later died, according to Deputy Chief Brian Widmayer.
Chief Widmayer said the department showed their support for Froman’s family by bringing the trucks to their home, and he said that a family member told him that Froman “passed doing something he loved.”
The chief added that Froman was an avid outdoorsman who loved woodworking, and he recalled a time when Froman helped him with some cribbing blocks for the department.
“He invited me down to his wood shop and ... he helped me cut them, and of course he had to make them perfect.”
Chief Widmayer also said that Froman was a retired Walt Disney World chef and he loved cooking for his colleagues.
“He loved helping anyone and was always in an upbeat ready to go mood,” a department Facebook post said. “We will miss Grant here at our department. But will never forget his commitment.”
