WEST, Texas — A Texas deputy and two firefighter-paramedics from Oregon he was hosting on a hunting trip stopped to help a teenager in a serious car crash on Monday night.
McLennan County Sheriff Joseph Ballew and Umatilla County Fire District Firefighter-Paramedics Trevor and Gaige Phillips, who are brothers, were on their way to go hunting when they noticed the wreck in a ditch around 11 p.m, according to KWTX.
They found the driver, a boy they estimated to be between 16 and 18 years old, injured and lying in the mud, and worked to stabilize him until local EMS arrived.
The identity of the boy and exact nature of his injuries were not reported.
“He was leaving work when somehow he crashed,” Ballew told KWTX. “He was hurt, but he will live.”
