TORRINGTON, Conn. — The Board of Public Safety voted 5-1 to cut half of the yearly stipend for the Burrville Volunteer Fire Department Wednesday evening, taking action after the department chief purchased a fire truck without proper authorization.
Capt. Jason Noad, the chief of the Burrville department, purchased the truck in question this past summer without the approval of the board, which is required under the memorandum of understanding governing the relationship between the city and the volunteer departments for any expenditure exceeding $1,000.
Before coming to a decision, board members spoke about the seriousness of the matter, as well as their desire not to impair the volunteer firefighting system in the city.
