SUPERIOR, Mont. — The chief of the Superior Volunteer Fire Department is facing felony charges for allegedly uploading images depicting child pornography and then destroying computers during the subsequent investigation.

Richard Miller, 46, appeared before Mineral County Justice of the Peace Dale Magone on Friday and was released on his own recognizance. He is charged with sexual abuse of children and two counts of tampering with physical evidence.

It’s unknown if Miller retains his position as chief of the volunteer fire department. A representative from the city who answered the Missoulian’s phone call said she couldn’t comment on the matter. Another phone call to City Attorney Thomas Orr wasn’t immediately returned.
