FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — One Fayetteville firefighter was briefly hospitalized due to heat exposure after battling a blaze on Bragg Boulevard Tuesday afternoon, a Fayetteville Fire Department news release said.
At 4:33 p.m., firefighters responded to the former site of Shamrock Auto Sales in the 4500 block of Bragg Boulevard near the Pamalee Drive interchange. The building is now vacant, the release said.
Firefighters arrived and saw heavy fire coming from the building. The release said “numerous” engines were requested due to the high temperature outside.
One firefighter on scene was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center due to symptoms related to heat exposure. The release did not identify the firefighter. The firefighter was released from the hospital by 8:30 p.m.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The Red Cross went to the fire and gave water and food to the firefighters, the release said.
The outbound lanes of Bragg Boulevard were closed so firefighters could work. Traffic was rerouted onto Swain Street, which connects to Pamalee Drive.
The outbound lanes were reopened around 8:30 p.m., the release said.
The building was declared a “total loss” due to the fire, the release said. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
