SANTA FE, NM — A NM firefighter has been fired after yelling at elementary school children and accusing them of stealing her wallet.
La Cienga Fire Department Firefighter Samantha Nottke and another colleague were giving a talk about fire prevention to 4th through 6th graders at a local school Tuesday, according to KRQE.
After the talk, Nottke noticed that her wallet was missing. Feeling that one of the students may have taken it, she, the principal and the students were taken to the cafeteria for a meeting.
While the principal and Nottke were speaking, some children laughed, prompting Nottke’s outburst.
Nottke, who also works for the county jail started yelling that “she keeps thieves like them locked up” and that the kids were “stealing from taxpayers.”
Hours later, Nottke’s wallet was found back at the firehouse.
She has been terminated but may reapply for her job after six months.
