CLEVELAND, Ohio — An off-duty firefighter was arrested Thursday night after wielding a machete during an altercation.
NewsNet5 reported that firefighter Almon L. Harris, 42, was arrested after police said he threatened his tenant with a machete because she was behind on rent.
According to the police report, firefighter Almon crawled through a hole into the building’s basement after police were called. When they found him there, he said that the tenant called him to the apartment over a broken furnace “and to have sex over the late rent,” according to the report.
The tenant said that firefighter Almon arrived at her door with a black machete and demanded the rent, according to the report.
He poked her and her brother with the machete, the report says, and an argument started. Then, the tenant said, firefighter Almon punched her brother in the mouth, according to the report.
The report indicated that police took a machete into their possession, but does not mention where it was. It also indicated that the incident was alcohol-related.
Firefighter Almon was charged with aggravated menacing and assault.
The incident is under investigation.
