Firefighters amputate conscious worker’s arm stuck in conveyor

After an evaluation of the situation, fire officials determined that a field amputation would be conducted on the man’s arm

LAVEEN, Ariz. — Firefighters were forced to amputate a man’s arm that was caught in a conveyor belt during a workplace accident Monday.

AZ Central reported that the accident occurred at a sand, rock and gravel business. Paramedics were called to the scene to help stabilize the man and extrication crews were called to help free the employee from the machinery, according to the report.

After an evaluation of the situation, fire officials determined that a field amputation would be conducted on the man’s arm.

The amputation was successful and the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to the report.
