Anne Arundel County firefighters rescued a man from an apartment early Friday morning in Glen Burnie during one of two fires that sprang up in the area within less than three hours.
Firefighters called to the 200 block of Woodhill Drive in Glen Burnie around midnight found smoke coming from a three-story apartment complex. Firefighters found the approximately 55-year-old man unconscious in an apartment on the building’s top floor, fire department spokesman Division Chief Keith Swindle said.
He was taken to nearby Baltimore Washington Medical Center with injuries from smoke inhalation that were serious but not life-threatening.The fire was confined to the apartment where the man was found and at total of 24 firefighters quickly brought under control. No additional residents were displaced.
The cause is believed to have been unattended cooking, Swindle said. The total damage was estimated at $1,500. Firefighters also responded to a blaze in the 6400 block of Lamplighter Ridge Lane at 9:15 p.m. Thursday. They found smoke coming from a two-story town home and quickly called for “all hands."The blaze was brought under control in about an hour, Swindle said. A 60-year-old man suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to BWMC.A firefighter also was taken to BWMC for minor burns, Swindle said.
Three townhouse units suffered $215,000 in damage. Three adults and three children were displaced from the three homes and are being assisted by the Red Cross, Swindle said.One dog and seven cats died in the fire.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters were called to a working dwelling fire Friday in the 6400 block Lamplighter Ridge in Ferndale. It was one of two blazes within a few hours in Glen Burnie.
