INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Police have identified the suspect accused of shooting at officers and being shot by police on Tuesday as 44-year-old Keith Manuel.
According to police, Manuel had two active warrants for his arrest the night he was stopped in a stolen truck. The warrants were for possession of cocaine and paraphernalia, and burglary. Police say Manuel fired shots at officers during a stop in the 4300 block of West Bradbury Avenue, in front of a Wayne Township fire station. Officers returned fire, striking Manuel and sending him to the hospital in critical condition.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the incident began when the driver of a pickup truck refused to stop when an officer tried to pull the vehicle over around 11:48 p.m. at Holt Rd. and Troy Ave. Three police cars chased the truck for about 1.5 miles to the driveway of Fire Station 81 on Bradbury Ave. in Wayne Township. According to Sgt. Kendale Adams, three people, two men and a woman were in the truck. One of the men got out of the vehicle stopped in front of the station’s doors and fired shots toward officers. Shots hit one of the IMPD cruisers but none of the officers were injured.
