Photo: No firefighters needed, cops rescue cats in tree

The officers used trashcans to create a makeshift stepladder

RICHMOND, Va. — Va. police officers took on a rescue usually associated with firefighters when they rescued two cats stuck in a tree.

A concerned resident flagged down a Richmond Police Department officer when she grew concerned about the stranded felines that had been stuck in the tree for five days, according to the department’s Facebook page.

One of the officers had the idea to stack a few city-issued trashcans on top of each other to create a make shift stepladder for the kittens to climb down.

A neighbor ended up taking in the stray kittens, saying it was too cold to let them stay outside.
