Detroit firefighter burned at abandoned building fire

The lieutenant suffered burns to his face and was taken to the hospital for treatment

DETROIT — A Detroit firefighter was injured this morning at the scene of a fire in a vacant dwelling on the city’s east side.

The Detroit Fire Department responded to the fire at about 9:10 a.m. at Laurel Avenue and Mayfield Street, a few blocks east of Gratiot.

The lieutenant suffered burns to his face and has been taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital. Firefighters continued to fight the fire shortly before 11 a.m., and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
