Pa. firefighter dies after responding to numerous calls

Wyomissing Captain Derrick L. Nester had responded to numerous calls, including a structure fire, and did not show up for his next shift

WYOMISSING, Pa. — A fire captain with the Wyomissing Fire Department has died, the United States Fire Administration reported.

Captain Derrick L. Nester was on an overtime shift on May 5 and responded to several emergency calls, with the final one being a residential structure fire.

After completing his shift, he went back home. When he failed to appear for his scheduled shift on the evening of May 6, his colleagues tried unsuccessfully to reach him, according to the United States Fire Administration.

He was later discovered deceased at his home by his fire chief, having suffered an apparent heart attack.
