Calling all fire photographers: FireRescue1 wants to see your pictures! The next time you come across something inspiring, take out the camera and submit it to FireRescue1! Just remember to include your name, agency information and brief background information on the picture.

This week’s photo shows a South Burlington Fire Department (Vermont) crew rescuing a cat and its owner from a tree on their Ladder 1 engine. Firefighters said the owner climbed the tree trying to rescue the cat on their own.

South Burlington Fire Local 3671 used the Christmas Eve incident as an opportunity to educate the public about the stereotype of cat-in-tree rescues. They wrote on Facebook that they don’t usually remove cats from trees because it leaves Ladder 1 unavailable to respond to fires and poses a safety risk to firefighters. They also said cats usually come down on their own and warned residents not to attempt a rescue themselves.
