SICHUAN PROVINCE— Chinese firefighters and police responded to a suicide call, witnesses saying a woman was in danger as she sat on the windowsill on top of a four-story building.
Neighbors told responders that a young woman had been sitting on the sill for more than two hours and seemed to be “introverted” according to the Shanghaiist.
Three police cars and a fire truck raced to the scene with over 20 rescuers laying out cushions on the ground below. Crews told onlookers to ignore the woman, in case it encouraged her to jump.
Making no progress, rescuers were able to get the woman’s apartment keys from the landlord and broke into her room.
When crews confronted her, she revealed that she had just been sitting on the sill to use to her neighbor’s wireless Internet connection on her phone.
